It portrays realism because the setting is extremely realistic, people are always walking down the street. This painting is also an example of harmony, the couple are taking a walk through the street, there are no distractions and it seems like a nice, peaceful stroll. Even though the painting is romantic, the couple are being subtle too, they obviously care for each other but they are making a point to display their casual love. The couple are walking through the rainy street with shops, benches, lights, and flowers around them but the obvious emphasis is on them. It is 10:00 on a Sunday morning, the woman leans over to her husband and says, “Happy Anniversary.” He leans over and kisses her on the cheek. They lie in silence for a couple minutes thinking of the first year that they have been married and what great joy it has been having each other. They can hear the soft rainfall coming down on the roof, rolling down the windows. The man whispers in his wife’s ear, “Lets go for a walk.” “But it’s raining”, she replies. But they go anyway. After they get dressed into their raincoats and get out the big black umbrella, they walk out the front door in unison. While walking down the street the reminisce about the past year and just admire how beautiful everything truly is.
